I work for Little Caesars in the marketing department as the office admin and I have this dog sculpture by my desk someone said they thought he was in a commercial but not sure on the whole story. I would love to know more about it and possibly frame this story to hang by him. Right now he sits alone with no history to share.
Hi Michelle! I wondered what happened to that doggy. the pup came to life at Make-up and Effects Lab in North Hollywood in the late 1980s, I believe, but could have been early 90s. I saw the commercial once when they screened it for the company. I was called in to sculpt the dog and a squirrel, but the timetable was such that I couldn’t do both, so I chose the dog. I was told the concept of the commercial, which had something to do with everything this guy touch would turn to gold, like King Midas. The dog was supposed to be begging for some pizza and the man pats him on the head, turning the pup to gold. I sculpted him in water clay in about five hours, including the changes from the rep as I went along. I was supposed to get a copy, but that never happened. We did name him, but I forgot what it was. I believe there were two copies made: one with normal color and one in gold. I only have the shot of him in clay that is on my Website. I’d be much appreciative if I could get a photo of the doggy by your desk. Please let him know I think of him often, and am happy he’s found a caring home.
