FOAM SCULPTING 101

Here’s a quick study on how to turn a block of urethane foam into a gnarly Mayan god head. Though I’m only showing one head, I actually sculpted two identical ones at the same time. I did this for three different heads. Each is six feet tall, so I had to add two feet to the four foot blocks.

Haha! I will show you how to sculpt a big Aztec head, but I will not tell you how I do it. LOL.

Make your first cuts after you have measured a whole lot of times to be sure you did not make a mistake.

Step one: measure twice, cut once (because you can't go back if you make a mistake. Or, not too easily.).

Step two: begin to carve away foam that should not be there.

Step three: keep carving away excess foam. Hint: there will be a lot.

Step five: time to take a break with the beverage of your choice.

Step six: finish the main structure, then on to detailing.

Step seven: after sculpture is perfect, ruin it by distressing. (see step eight)

Step eight: Several hundred years of jungle torment.
