Stuart Land was born in Washington, D.C. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force Reserves and served as an x-ray technician. In civilian life, he worked as a hair stylist. To experience the harder edge of life, Stuart became a Washington, D.C. Police Officer. While on the Police Force he became an avid photographer.

Stuart left the police force for college, then to pursue photography in New York City. He worked as a set and location photographer for a film company and shot model portfolios. When the film company went under, Stuart left NYC, took up residence in a converted chicken coop in rural Maryland and became a metal sculptor.

As he developed the craft to a fine art, he expanded to include specialized costumes made of metal and material. He was included in the 1983 art-fashion book, Fashion: 2001, as one of the top breed of new fashion designers worldwide.

Stuart has had art and fashion shows and exhibited in galleries in Washington, DC, Boston, London, Beverly Hills, LA, Baltimore, Laguna Beach, NYC, and San Francisco. His work is in many private collections worldwide.

Combining his knowledge of art, fashion and photography, Stuart became an art director for a modeling agency in Washington, D.C. He wrote, designed and directed lively fashion entertainment shows for clients that ranged from swimsuit designers to movie studios.

During this time, he also worked with Playboy photographer, David Chan, for a summer pictorial.

Stuart made a transition from sculpting in metal to sculpting in wax, clay and various plastic resins for finished works in Bronze and fiberglass. He then moved to LA and entered the film and theme park business. He quickly rose to the top of his field as a sculptor for special effects, sets and props. He has worked on over 30 feature films and has sculpture in Disneyland and Disney World, Universal Studios, Las Vegas hotels and a host of other theme parks around the world. On most jobs, he is lead sculptor and coordinator responsible for competency and budget.

Soon after arriving in LA, Stuart began writing. He has completed almost twenty screenplays (one produced to video), three novels and written/produced/directed four short student films, and a spec TV series. For information on scripts or novels, please email Stuart at: stuart@studioSL.com

Stuart’s first novel, Back from the Dead (the true sequel to Frankenstein), is available now from any online bookseller or walk-in bookstore by ordering ISBN 1413751377. Two more novels, Shadow House and SCENT are in prepublication.

Still a photographer, Stuart combines photography with computer techniques which are then rendered as photographic art prints, large format iris prints, and original oil paintings. Some of these unique paintings are available in America. (Photos here) Contact Stuart by email for a showing.

Water Fountains with floating and revolving marble spheres, and beautiful acrylic water spheres, are another Stuart’s creations. All the large fountains, and three paintings, were stolen from Jurassic, Inc, in Santa Monica, CA. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Three hundred of the table top fountains were also stolen by the distributor in the midwest.
